Job Description:

Clearwire's technology changes lives! If you are motivated by having a role where what you do each day directly influences the way people work and communicate, Clearwire may be the company for you.
Clearwire, founded in October 2003 by telecom pioneer Craig O. McCaw, is a provider of simple, fast, portable and reliable wireless high-speed Internet service. Clearwire customers connect to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable or phone lines.
Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across the U.S. as well as in Europe.
On May 7, 2008, Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to combine their next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new wireless communications company to expedite the deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network.
In conjunction with this agreement Intel Corporation (through Intel Capital); Google Inc.; Comcast Corporation; Time Warner Cable Inc; and Bright House Networks have collectively agreed to invest $3.2 billion into the new company.

Working as part of the Clearwire technical team, these candidates will be responsible for multiple aspects of microwave network design, implementation, and performance management. This would include: design of microwave networks using software and analysis tools; site selection support; path profile/line of sight analysis; microwave network field tuning/optimization; interference measurement/tracking; and ongoing capacity/performance management.
Responsibilities:
• Develop microwave design(s), using licensed and unlicensed frequencies, which support the deployment of next generation wireless broadband networks • Utilize software propagation/planning tools such as PathLoss or Ellipse, along with defined design standards and link budgets, to create high quality microwave designs • Drive a strong design architecture that maximizes performance, link availability, and provides redundancy/diversity while also meeting budgetary objectives • Participate in the search ring process and assist in the selection of cell sites that are microwave-optimum. Must work closely with market project managers and service delivery RF engineering team during the site selection and acquisition process • Effectively manage design projects and any issues that arise to insure that they meet aggressive deployment timelines • Management of vendors, as necessary, if initial designs are outsourced. This includes conducting detailed design reviews and audits to ensure that all network objectives are fulfilled • Manage or conduct field work, including path surveys, installation and commissioning support, troubleshooting, and optimization • Assist in the commissioning and optimization process as equipment is deployed and brought into service • Help test and troubleshoot microwave backhaul network systems issues. Work with NOC/Tier 3 and equipment suppliers to resolve product defects • When spurious interference is encountered in a market, lead the effort to measure, identify, and resolve, the source(s) of interference • Provide ongoing capacity management, performance management, and redesign support, in launched markets
Qualifications:
Required: • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible microwave backhaul network design and engineering experience • Bachelors of Electrical Engineering or similar field • Expert knowledge and skill in using microwave propagation and planning tools such as PathLoss or Ellipse • Working level knowledge and experience in IP networking • Experience working at communication sites/towers to validate dish alignment, installation quality, and support optimization is a must • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with microwave performance instrumentation and analysis tools • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills • Ability to manage personal workload, vendors, and deliverables, to meet aggressive project timelines • Strong work ethic and team player • Candidates should be capable of climbing ladders/stairs while carrying test equipment • Valid, clean, driver’s license required
Preferred: • Masters or higher level degree in Electrical Engineering • Prior RF/microwave design experience with a wireless service provider is preferred • In addition to the licensed microwave bands, familiarity and experience with working in the UNII unlicensed band is a plus • Prior experience with vendor management of outsourced microwave design contractors, line-of-site vendors, and equipment vendors is desirable
